Dolphins RB Achane off IR, will play vs. Raiders

MIAMI — Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane was activated from injured reserve and will play Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders after a four-game absence.

A 2023 fourth-round pick, Achane exploded in Weeks 3 through 5 with 460 combined rushing yards and seven total touchdowns. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his breakout performance in Week 3, recording 233 total yards and four touchdowns.

After rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 5, Achane was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, which coach McDaniel described as “more of a sprain” than a tear. McDaniel said in certain situations, a player could play through that injury with the help of a knee brace, but the team wanted to “err on the side of caution” with its star rookie.

McDaniel praised Achane for his work ethic and commitment to the team, both of which should help the AFC East-leading Dolphins during the final half of the season.

“He’s come a long way in a short period of time to become — it feels like he’s not a rookie in the locker room, and that’s what the locker room needed from him,” McDaniel said. “We don’t have time for rookies anymore. This is pro ball.”

The Dolphins also signed wide receiver Robbie Chosen to their practice squad, and immediately elevated him to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Miami waived Chosen on Thursday with the hopes of bringing him back if he cleared waivers, which he did.

His elevation comes as support to Miami’s depth at receiver. Chase Claypool was ruled out for Sunday’s game after undergoing a knee procedure during the team’s bye week, and Braxton Berrios is listed as questionable to play with a hamstring injury.

Offensive linemen Rob Hunt and Robert Jones were also ruled out with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively.
