NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Jacksonville Jaguars got Trevor Lawrence back, but that wasn’t enough to get them back to the playoffs.
Lawrence threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns but also had two interceptions in his first game back since suffering a sprained right AC joint, and the Jaguars lost to the Tennessee Titans 28-20 at Nissan Stadium. It cost them the AFC South and eliminated them from playoff contention.
The Houston Texans, who beat the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night, won the division.
The Jaguars (9-8) were in control of the division at 8-3 through the first 12 weeks of the season but closed 1-5, with the only victory coming over the Carolina Panthers. Lawrence missed that game because of the shoulder injury he suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 24.
Lawrence’s first interception came off a pass that tight end Evan Engram bobbled. His second appeared to be a miscommunication with wide receiver Zay Jones. He closes his third season with the franchise’s single-season record for interceptions (14).
The Jaguars’ loss also clinched playoff spots for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.
